Don Henley got it wrong
The warm smell of sage, not colitas, was almost overpowering in the 105 degrees throughout the Primm Valley(NV) today. Today’s temps began at 66 in Long Beach rising to 108 in St. George UT at days end. The fleece and jacket were stashed early on.
Burning off 400 miles, I chewed through the width of CA and the length of NV, then bit off a small piece of northwest AZ, before dropping into UT for the night. Tomorrow looks like about 390 miles and should get me through UT and into CO, and I hope that the altitude in the Rockies will turn down the thermostat a bit.
The odd experience of the day was having two skydivers drop-in within spitting range of my route. That made 3 of us, in the middle of nowhere, with no landing strip in sight. Taking a closer look, I saw a van partially hidden behind some creosote bushes. I didn’t hang around to examine their cargo.
On a personal note: One of the toughest Marines that I ever met, passed away yesterday. Given his cancer and congestive heart failure, he could have never joined me on this adventure … until now. I take you with me Gregory. Godspeed and ride lightly beside me, my dear cousin. Thank you for acting like my big-brother, when I was a kid.
