Going South to Get North

Having flown right over my destination of Arica, Chile, I landed 2 hours south of it, in Santiago.  Now nothing but a 12 hour layover stood between me and a reverse flight north to my destination.  The impending short stop in Iqique, Chile, en-route to Arica, was just a minor aggravation at that point.
