Day 10 – Sweatin’ then Chillin’
As Darla in the Little Rascals would say, ” I was sweatin’ like a pig” as the fever and my stash of ciprofloxacin waged civil war in my digestive tract throughout the preceding night. However, other than desperately needing a shower, I was back in business as the morning broke. Half of today’s dilemma (yeah I always thought it was spelled dilem-n-a, too) was being driven by the fact that this was a BIG auto racing Sunday, as the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix was about to start and then the Indy 500 was running immediately thereafter. So I chose to chill out for the day, foregoing the optional day ride down to the Amazon Basin and instead hangout with ESPN-SP for the next 6 hours or so. I foraged at the local bodega for some sandwiches and Peruvian potato chips, a couple of Cokes (this time they weren’t being delivered to my front fender) and voila’ … breakfast! Oddly, it seemed important to have the TV volume on, even though I didn’t understand the announcers that were calling the race. I think a significant amount of our communication occurs via voice inflection and body movement, rather than actually understanding the words. Just listen to any German opera and you’ll see what I mean. That being said, I feel a renewed justification for continuing to talk with my hands.
