No Room at the Inn

Profiting from an early start this morning, I had 100 miles down by 8:30 am.  Climbing out of St. George UT, a brisk 59F met me as I crested the pass at 6,000 ft., just west of Cedar Breaks and Zion National Park. The speed limit allowed for covering some ground, posted at 80 mph (+/- 15).  A few cloud bursts seasoned the ride and they convinced me to just leave the rain-gear on for the remainder of the day.

The bike and its rider were hungry as Payson UT came into view.  The One Man Band Diner does not lie.  The Elvis omelet was killer and the service was great.  The tables number about 15 and there truly is only 1 employee, total, in the joint.  How does he do it?  You’ll have to read the menu instructions on the attached photo.

Payson is another one of my beloved “Small Town USA” places.  Lawns were being mowed and parks were being used.  Kids were doing what kids should be doing in the summer.  The Peteetneet Schoolhouse is fine example of period architecture.

Plans called for today to end in Malad City ID.  Well, so much for plans.  There was no room at the inn for me in Malad City, so I kept poking along until Pocatello ID welcomed me in.  That caused today to run about 480 miles, but…the good news is that it should shorten tomorrow, if the intended destination of Helena MT holds steady.

  2. Nice Rich. Did you just stumble on the diner? Or was it planned? I think that concept could actually work here in our neck of the woods!!

  3. Amazing stuff, don’t support knock off Tastee Freezes though. One man band makes a ton of sense. Ride safe!
